Osbournes, MTV Team for Battle of Bands Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are returning to MTV, but they're ceding the spotlight this time to eight up-and-coming bands. The cable network announced Wednesday (Oct. 6) that it's launching an unscripted series called "Battle for OZZfest," in which eight bands vie for a spot on next year's OZZfest tour. The show is set to debut Monday, Oct. 25."OZZfest has been the launch pad for so many new acts like System of a Down, Incubus, Slipknot, Disturbed, Godsmack and Chevelle -- all who have gone on to multi-platinum success," Sharon Osbourne says. "Now we are taking eight bands and giving them the same opportunity. But life on the road isn't always what its cracked up to be, and our bands are going to find that out, the hard way."Each week, the bands will be put through some task that mimics life as part of a big, traveling rock show. They'll all live together on an oversized tour bus as well. MTV promises a big twist to the competition in the premiere episode. After that, the bands will battle for a spot on the tour, along with a cash prize, new gear and, possibly, a record deal.
